Abstract art for kids

Moholy-Nagy art for kids
What I initially planned for a casual browsing at the MoMA turned out to be a 3-hour long artist study with Liz.

All because of this painting.

László Moholy-Nagy. Q 1 Suprematistic, 1923

She came across this painting and asked to stay so she could sketch it on her kid’s activity booklet that she collected from the information desk.

And then more…

This is my first time learning about Moholy-Nagy. It is great for kids because it is easy to identify with the geometric shapes in his work. I also shared with her briefly about how a focal point is created by adding colour, shape, line and contrast.

Taking photo for reference.

We continued our study at the Art Lab, where we could use some of the art supplies to create Moholy-Nagy inspired art work.

We found what we needed at the Art Lab. Art supplies and colour papers!

Her first abstract art titled “Beach”. She asked me to help her with coiling a white pipe cleaner, which I naively asked what it was for. “It’s seashell, mommy!” She replied excitedly. “Then this is the sun, sand, ocean and my seashell!”

“My 3rd birthday party”: her favourite chocolate cake with strawberry-flavoured icing and balloons.
